I've been playing around with the soapcal and I came up with this.

You guys know what you're doing, how does it look?

OO 40%
PO 15%
Shea butter 10%
Coconut 25%
Castor oil 10%

gives it:
hardiness 38
cleansing 17
condition 58
bubbly 26
creamy 30
iodine 58
INS 151

I know it's not super cleansing and I need to go back and read about the iodine number cause I don't get that one yet.

I want to add a little ground oatmeal to it and that's about it. I just want to make something non irritant and moisturizing. I know it's on the soft side but is that bad or ?

This second one may need tweaking because as I was reading, someone said not to exceed 10% shea butter. I'll have to tweek it but I wanted input please.

OO 12%
PO 25%
shea 15%
coconut 18
castor oil 10
sweet almond 15
palm kernel 5

That gave it
hardiness 40
cleansing 15
condition 56
bubbly 24
creamy 33
iodine 58
INS 146

I was going to add honey and oatmeal to that one.

I'm so confused at this point. Maybe I can lower the conditioning on that one and up the cleansing since I *think* the honey will add to the conditioning.

edit:
If I do 10% of shea and palm kernel I get this:
hardiness 41
cleansing 18
condition 54
bubbly 27
creamy 32
iodine 56
INS 150

That looks better (well to my very untrained/unskilled eyes). I need to walk away now and clear my head

don't listen to "someone said". the only hard and fast rule in soaping is that you add the lye to the water (and not the opposite). I regularly soap with 25% cocoa butter.

any of those recipes is plenty cleansing. those numbers are guidelines at best and are not really representative of what you will get. you need to just try a simple recipe and then modify to learn.

(honey doesn't add to "conditioning" but it makes for a nice creamy, dense lather.)

i keep telling myself "lye in water, lye in water" LOL

Ok well, I've been reading a LOT on the forum and trying to pick up tips and things :)

So how does it look though? I'm so ready for tomorrow!

looks fine to me. I'd superfat these at 6%-7% if you have dry skin - you are working with mostly very stable oils so it shouldn't be problematic.

Ok, I had the standard 5% in there.

Do you keep the water at 38% . I know it's probably a preference thing but I have no idea what I'm doing yet. I just want to have everything ready for tomorrow!

If you are new to soaping then 38% for the water is great. You can always experiment with that later. Good luck. Hope you have fun.

Thank you! I'll stick to the 38% then. I just need to do jump in tomorrow.
