Just a little background..... this is my first post here but I've been making soap since 2005. I stopped for a while due to illness, but I'm now back at it again, trying to get enough soap together to have a little Chrsitmas craft table.
My question is: Would grits, or cream of wheat work in soap as scrubbies? Or would it go bad once soaped. I would be adding it at trace. Any insite would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

~ Oh and I neglected to mention that I make CP soap, thanks again.

Grits sounds like it would make a great additive! I use steel cut oats in my soaps and have not had a problem. There are some other posts on this forum regarding the use of food in soap.

Generally, the lye creates a hostile environment for bacteria making it very difficult for things to spoil.

I use grits all the time just add them at a thick trace, I also use cornmeal too. You want a thick trace so they stay suspended and not sink to the bottom :D HTH.

As an added note, most of what you add, even at trace, will cook during gel, so that's why there's no spoilage. The exception would be large chunks of food that retain moisture & may never completely dry out, which might rot.
