I was heating some oil to put through a filter and I got the temp on the obern set incorrectly and the oil started smoking a little. The over was set to just under 500 but IDK what temp it really was, probably a little lower as I think my oven is a little off.

The oil was olive oil, grade A or "classic" which is a light yellow color. The color didn't change, the only thing was that there was a brown ring of baked on oil at the upper edge of the oil.

The oil filtered REALLY fast and it seems fine.

I also had another container of EV olive oil that had been infused with rosemary which turned a light brown/orange from it's green/light brown original color.

How do you think this heating will effect the oil and is it still usable for soap? Do I have more to worry about with the infused oil or could that be still usable?

Mmmm I totally burned a batch of rosemary infusing oil (that I out right forgot about AND had mistakenly placed higher temp than I meant to) and didn't think much of it. Till we used it and it even smelled burnt in the soap :( almost like fryer oil.

So never gonna go that again.

For sure small batch it to see..

I too would say try it in a small batch and see how it works. Also, I don't use an oven to melt/heat..I either use a microwave in 30 sec bursts to heat my oils or use a double boiler...it's a lot easier to control the temps that way.
