It was supposed to be goats milk with oats and honey (hp crockpot process) but something happened and it stayed an applesauce texture the whole time it was cooking. The ammonia smell that came along from the goats milk was a bit much so I added some vanilla extract hoping to manage the smell and batched it. Now I have sticky soft soap that smells like Caramel! I guess it wouldn't be too bad if the bar will harden up. Does anyone know if HP soap hardens over time?

So low and behold..

Goats Milk Honey..I mean, Caramel and Oats soap! LOL.

I don't know much about HP soaping but I do not see why it wouldn't continue to harden when it is being exposed to air. Now, how much it will harden I am not sure.....I am sure lots of other people that make soap by HP method can answer this question. :) now, I am really posting here to tell you how your soap looks rustic and very nice. Good job! Sry you had issues and hopefully your soap will harden up for ya!

Mmmm, caramel soap... It looks really nice though. The cuts came out very clean and look beautiful. I love the way the crinkle cut looks with it.

They still look great!

I have been doing HP exclusively for the past month and love it! I do a goat's milk with 80% EVOO and 20%Coconut and can unmold it within 12 hours (if need be) and use it with in 3-4 days (knowing it will harden more over time). I use the double boiler method instead of the crockpot and have no problem. Not that I am an expert, but will you share your recipe? It may give more insight as to why it is so sticky and soft.:)

My crockpot hp soaps are soft for a bit and have the applesauce texture too. Pour it in your mold, give it a few whacks on the counter and give it a full day before cutting. It will harden significantly. I waited a week before using though to dry completely.

I've been doing HP soaps lately and noticed that if I add the milk after the cook I can avoid the ammonia smell. In the case where you've cooked the milk, the smell will fade over time.

The bars will harden significantly over the next few days unless there was some miscalculation in your formula. Usually I'll leave them in the mold about 12 hours before cutting, unless the formula contained more than 70% soft oils.

Don't be disheartened, caramel smells awesome and your soaps look great!
