Hey my name is Kryse, from rural manitoba. Looking about getting into soap making. Joined this site to see where in manitoba, or online would be the chepest route for me to get supplies (lye, coconut oil, essential oils) but not garbage supplies either. I've heard that in rural manitoba you can ask at home hardware or farm supply stores to get lye. Anyone have any luck with this?

Thanks,

Kryse

Some hardware stores stock lye as drain cleaner. Just make sure the drain cleaner states that it it 100% sodium hydroxide. If you have a Walmart-type store near you, they will probably stock coconut oil. Essential oils can be found at local health food stores.

Hi Kryse, welcome to the forum. Home Hardware ( In SK has lye) or they will get it in for you, you do have to sign a piece of paper to get it. You can get Olive Oil at Costco and Coconut oil, sometimes health food stores have essential oils, coconut oil and almond oil and more. I get my canola and safflower at Super Valu . Saffire Blue is a good supplier as is Voyageur ( In B.C but they ship which ever way is cheapest to you via mail or bus.
