New to the World of Soaps!

Hello! I have recently been out in a bit of a pickle, and I needed some money. I was thinking of cute ways to get money and also run a business, hence the birth of my soap idea! I know nothing, and I can't wait I learn from you all.


I also have 4 guinea pigs, 1 dog and 1 horse. I'm thinking about selling lavender and peppermint scented soaps as a start off.

Welcome to the forum. If you are just starting out, I suggest that you use melt & pour base. Most people don't start selling their product until they have several months of practice, experience and research under their belts.

Hi welcome to the forum. Soap making is a very expensive venture. It does take awhile to do research and perfect your recipe.

I agree with everyone else. Cold process/hot process soapmaking sounds simple in theory but can prove a little trickier in practice. It's not a get rich quick or even make some money fast method despite claims to the contrary. I agree with lsg that if you're in a hurry, you'd be better off starting with MP.

I agree with everyone! I am a new soaper but I have been reading and studying for over a year before I experimented. Its expensive too! Go slow and try to perfect your recipes before trying to sale your creations, or you could be risking your name before you even start. You did do right by joining this forum as everyone is so helpful and willing to instruct and give advice. Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Several months is quick. I would say several years since there are so many facets to running a soap business or any business at all.
As a matter of fact- I lost money for the first couple of my selling years.

I would just start with melt and pour while you research other soap making methods and see what you like.
Soap making is easy- formulating an awesome recipe is not- you will go through many before you find your holy grail.
