We are new to the soap making world and I can't really tell how we got in to all this....lets see....hmmm, we were looking at recipes for dog shampoo (Linda is a pet groomer) and found one that suggested you make your own liquid soap. The recipe looked simple enough so I thought we should try it. We rounded up all the ingredients, dumped them in the crock pot and....nothing happened. It turns out that the recipe was completely bogus as it called for potassium chloride instead of potassium hydroxide. (Dang internet).
Being the stubborn one in the family I started researching soapmaking on the web, youtube, etc. I made wood molds, looked up recipes, bought equipment and generally went manic on the entire project. Then, on the first night we had free we jumped in with both feet and made 4 batches at 4 pounds apiece! All four were our own recipe worked out with the help of soapcalc.
They all came out perfect if I do say so myself. They were:
1. Lavender
2. Grapefruit w/dried zest
3. Oatmeal honey
4. Vanilla creme

Maybe it's beginners luck, maybe it's good research (this time), but we are definitely hooked and it's just good clean fun too!
