Hello,

Another guy soaper here from Kansas City. I started making soap after reading a story about making a manly bar of soap from Art of Manliness. I found it very interesting and rewarding actually. I have made two batches so far one the AOM soap and other with Lavender EO for my wife.

I have plans in the future to make a soap that my two little girls (5, 1 1/2 y/o) can use. I'd like to make a Beer soap, and I'm really searching for a recipe or tips for a soap for beards. My next batch that I have planned is to use Lard, and patchouli EO.

Thanks for reading! I'm sure I'll find a wealth of information, and tips here.

Welcome. My daughter is on her way to Ft. Leonard Wood with her husband and children. He is a marine being stationed there for the next three years.

Awesome, more newbies! Get on our bandwagon and make salt bars! Thats gotta be fairly manly, right?

I think it's awesome how many men are getting into soaping. Soaps can be thought of as a girl thing but if they knew what went into making them people wouldn't label it so. To me it's like doing a science project. Lol so congratulations to your new becoming addiction into the soaping world. Lol FYI this is an amazing group to be a part of.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone! This forum has so much information on it! Plus you all seem very active!

I'm actually hoping to make a batch today, trying to decide if I should make it 100% lard or blend coconut oil in. Oh descisions descisions. My wife says her and my daughters will not use a soap with pig fat in it.

Thanks again!

You know what lard makes a really good bar. It lathers very well. It's just how they see it in their mind. Lol do they like bacon????

Too bad you missus doesn't like lard soap. Lard makes a wonderful bar, especially if it is combined with coconut oil and a little Castor oil.

That is exactly what I just made! I added patchouli EO. I may not tell her what I used and see her reaction to it.

Wow no bacon, I didn't know anyone existed who doesn't like bacon. Lol but lard does make a wonderful bar and she won't know unless you tell her.

Sadly only my 16month old girl likes bacon, the other two could go on with life having never to eat another piece of bacon.

Sacrilege!!! not eating meat??? :) just kidding. welcome! one tip when using essential oils in soaps, it is suggested that eo's not be used on children under the age of ten, based on what i have read. So just a heads up there :) Good luck in using animal products in soap, maybe you can sneak it in there somehow! :) they really do make soap alot more hydrating. I use deer and lanolin for my husband who works out in the elements. He loves it. anyway, welcome and good luck!

I don't eat bacon ever and I was vegan for 15 years (teen to early 30's before marrying a huge carnivore and I now eat a small amount) and I have made some lard soaps and used them. :)

I keep my lard below 15% to keep the smell out.. And the end result you can't tell it has lard. It does make for an amazing bar.
I've done 54 different recipes and narrowed it to my top 10.. 7 have lard. :)
