Spent some time in a thrift store today and hubby does not enjoy doing this so asked him to go back to the book section and find me a book on making soap. Now I really didn't think he would find one. Jokes on me!!! Spent $1.99 and brought home "Natural soapmaking" by Marie Browning.

Now I'm very new at this new craft and have only made 2 batches of soap, which I'm very happy with. My question is - in this book all the soaps are made with base soap that you buy. Can I make my own soap with nothing added and then melt it back down like they do in the book and add the oils and coloring that some of the recipes call for? Some of these recipes sound good enough to eat!!

Hi yes you can make soap grate it remelt add color scent ect. Commonly called handmill or rebatching. Unless there is some issue I find it kind of a pain but I am learning to embrace rebatch in my thrift store crockpot.

I think that book uses M&P soap base. It is a specific type of base that you can melt in the microwave, add color, scent, eyc and pour into a mold. It is usuable immediately.
