I made my first lotion bars yesterday with equal parts shea butter, soft oils (1/2 sao and 1/2 sunflower oil) and beeswax. They are too hard for my liking and I would like to make them a little softer ( they dont melt very easy at all). I plan to remelt them. Should I add more shea butter or more soft oils?

depends on how much softer you want them.
I am not really sure, I guess I can just add a little of both?? Right now it is real hard to melt them (even rubbing them in my hands). Little bits rub off but they are even hard to melt.

Here is a tried and true Lotion Bar recipe, is nice and velvety smooth going on.
2.5 oz Beeswax
3 oz. butters of choice, mix of cocoa and shea or either or
3 oz. oils of choice, I like oils such as apricot, sweet almond, jojoba etc..
Vit E. or Coviox t-50 at 1 %
Mica for colorant
1 oz. FO
2 tsp. Velvet Glide
Melt altogether and pour into containers
Makes 8-9 1 oz. Bars

Velvet Glide is modified corn starch. It's used in mineral make-up, body powders, bath fizzers and foot powders. it is a very fine, white powder. I used it to cut the greasiness, it worked great! It has been a few years since I have made these, so I am not remembering where I got it now. I used to sell these and never had a bad review. I did mix the shea and cocoa butters, so not sure what you would get if you just used say the cocoa butter, might be pretty hard.

Hmmm, your proportions are right in line with my recipe.
I use equal parts beeswax, shea butter and jojoba oil(I like it because of it's long shelf life)

I don't have a problem with them melting on contact or with them crumbling......I'd maybe suggest increasing your liquid oil just a tad maybe 2 ounces of each beeswax and shea butter and then 3 ounces total of liquid oils and see if that helps:)

Good Luck~
