Wow... labels are going to be the end of me. I have such a hard time with label templates. Not sure if it is just my printer, or what.... but I can never get labels to line up!

The problem I am having now is with some labels (and a template) from onlinelabels.com.

I've downloaded the template in Microsoft Word, but either they (or my computer) has set the spacing to double space. I can't type one line under another (which is important when making lip balm labels, I need to squeeze as much info on those tiny labels as possible!) It keeps double spacing.

Does anyone know how I can adjust this in Word? I am pretty computer savvy but I just can't seem to get this and I'm almost ready to give up! My labels are one measly line off - and I can't fix it!

Please help! :) Thanks!

I don't have MS Word, but from memory I think if you just highlight all the font (control + a) and go to Format menu, Paragraph (I think this is what it's called  ), it will let you select your line spacing - set to single if you want single...

if that doesn't fix it then I dunno!

Hi Ashley,

I had the same problem with MS word and a problem with my labels as well. I use Avery Labels and they have a template and wizard too. I found that to get the labels to line up correctly I had to insert a 4pt space at the top the label (but it would look normal when printed out). I also found that I could not copy and paste text into the template or it would print unaligned, even though it looked normal on the computer. I thought it was my printer also, but it was just the template program :)

Also I have had the same double spacing problem with MS Word. Every time I would enter down it would double space, but the paragraph was not double spaced (as the in the double spacing that Norai is talking about). Very frustrating! I could not find a solution, I looked on the web, nothing worked. I just ended up "spacing" with the space bar till the courser went to the next line and had to use the space bar to move things around instead of the enter button. Or I just had to get a new document. Also, if you copy and paste text from the bad document it will take the horrible "double spacing when you enter down" thing with it. It is like a curse!

Good luck! Maybe there are other templates (like the Avery templates, or templates on the Microsoft website that will fit your labels without the Plague of spaces!) :)

In MS Word try:
Edit --> Select All (or Ctrl+A) to select the entire document.
Then from the top menu select...
Format --> Paragraph

Set the "Before" and "After" values to 0pt
Then set the "Line Spacing" value to single.

HTH!

Edit: Oops sorry Norai... I just realized those were your same instructions.
I have MS word on my PC and just went through it as I was typing my instructions so you were right on the money.

Thanks everyone! I'll go and try this (printer is hooked up to my other computer) and let you know if I get it figured out!

And if all that doesn't work... check the font itself. I was having this same problem when my Word defaulted to Arial Unicode MS font-type. I changed the font, and problem was resolved!

Got it figured out!! :D Not exactly sure how since I have been trying so many different things... but I FINALLY have my labels lined up right. Whew!

Thanks everyone!
