my second soap creation!

Hey guys n girls! Just finished up my second bach of CP.

Heres my soapcalc recipe for your viewing pleasure

My aim with this soap, is a hard, mild bar with a creamy lather that is gentle and conditioning on the skin, with added moisturizing goodness from the lanolin. My skin loves lanolin. And I have dry skin so I don't want a soap that strips away too many oils.

The batch went hassle free, and it hit trace in about 2mins flat with my stick blender! It was fast, which I think was a plus. I added the lye to the oils at 100f because I didn't want it to gel, my goal is a solid color and no transparency.

In its mould! The color is exactly like custard! Because of the lanolin I imagine. We will see how it looks tomorrow when I un mould it.

Uhm...I am not sure what you wanted your superfat to end up as, but you have it set at 6% then you added another 5% on top of that for a total of 11%. If that was your intention, then you did great. Soap looks great!

Please let me know how that ended up smelling since you went unscented. I am always leery of doing unscented soap since my first soap was unscented lard, and that smell just lingers for me.

Yeah, I am aware of my super fat. See, lanolin isnt a fat but a wax so I figure that its almost a seperate thing from the soap. If I had the soap at 0% super fat, and added 5% lanolin as the super fat itself after trace, id just have a bar of lanolin laundry soap wouldnt I? Thats my thinking anyway.

As for the scent, its very mild. It doesnt smeel like beef tallow, or any of the other oils for that matter. You can smell the lanolin though, but very mild and I don't mind the scent of lanolin personally.

I do plan on adding scents, but later on after its cured. I want to just hand mill a couple bars and add a couple different scents or essential oils to experiment and see what I like best.

Okay so I think think this soap was a bit of a fail. Upon unmoulding, the texture was very soft and crumbly, making it fall apart when cutting. Ill see how it holds up after a few weeks cure. As for scent, it smells of lanolin.

Thats ok Dudemanguy... I remember when I started I made tons of mistakes and I still continue. The science will come. Enjoy the process!

Oh I will. Its great fun. Im just going to redo the recipe but include the lanolin in with the base oils and then calculate the suoerfat.

Well its been roughly a week now and the bars have lost the strange, crumbly soft texture and have hardened up a fair bit. I gave one a go and washed my hands and I was pleasantly surprised, it was very mild and had a nice creamy, little hit bubbly lather. Scent wise it does leave some to be desired but maybe I could hand mill it and add a scent? It seems like it will be use able, even if not the greatest soap ever. Would be a shame to waste it.
