Hi There,

I am a newbie to soap making but am totally hooked!! My first attempt at making CP soap, 4 weeks ago, was with lemon & oatmeal. It was a recipie from a book i bought and i used clary sage and lemon essential oil as advised, but after 4 weeks, i can barely smell the scent! Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can make my scent last?

Also does anyone know if the following essential oils will have better staying power if put into CP soap...

1. Lavender, Lime
2. Peppermint
3. Orange, Clary sage (and honey)

Your advice would be greatly received!

Thank you,
Kelly

How about if i mix orange (sweet), lemon, Lime and Clary sage with the dry oats and then add it to the oils at trace. Do you think this will last? I heard that citruses last longer if there is a mixture of them and they are mixed with the additive (in this case, oats) before being put in??

I tried this combination of oils last night and this morning it smells great but i want to know if it will last this time?

I like to use Litsea to anchor flighty citrus scents. It doesn't 'change' the fragrance and leaves me with a nice clean crisp citrus.

I'm afraid you have quite a selection of unstable EOs that won't hold up. Perhaps a touch of patchouli or litsea might anchor them a bit but I suspect you will end up with nada. And I don't believe the oats would mitigate this since it's an issue with heat and pH and the can't mitigate those...

****! So how do people create good citrus bars? I mean, good enought to sell? By adding a base note such as patchouli? Is this my answer?

possibly with patch or litsea but in many cases with fragrance oils instead of essential oils. people aren't always honest.

but there ARE citrus-TYPE EOs that do stick, like litsea and lemongrass

Fantastic, ill try lemongrass instead of lemon! Thank you very much for your help x

I have not done melt and pour but from what I gather you have to wrap them to keep them from drying out. That seems it might help keep some of those citrus scents stay intact a little longer. I am just wondering on this. Anyone know if I am right or wrong on this?

I use equal parts lemon and lemongrass in mine. I have had some to fade I thought but when used the scent seem to come back strong.
