I have become the cool Aunt, and to me it’s extra special. My niece was adopted and came from a horrific situation. She has been diagnosed as R.A.D and for her to seek out a relationship with a female is huge! She is 13 now, so add teenage angst to the mix lol.

She just formulated her first lotion using the Swift Crafty Monkey only recipe you will ever need and it was impressive! She’s got her first batch of soap under her belt and she’s hooked…when can we make more stuff? Can I help at the markets this year?

Now my other niece is asking to come over and learn…is this the start of my own soapy empire ( insert evil bwah ha ha laugh)

I’ve always been big on teaching the littles the “old” ways and super excited they are now curious enough to want to learn, old enough to recognize the value of why buy it when you can make it better, and smart enough to question the why’s - all the things they don’t learn in school. Not bashing teachers in any way, you all do a phenomenal job with what you are required to teach and with the obstacles you face on the daily- I have teachers and a principal in my family and recognize the seemingly impossible task you all have!

This is so awesome! My field of work includes many "children from hard places," including many with RAD, as well as the families who commit to providing trauma-informed care to help them heal. So when you say it is huge for her to seek out a positive relationship, I can vouch, that is an understatement!

Your availability to her, and your calm acceptance of her, may very well be a pivot point in her life that literally changes her future. Keep up the great work, auntie!! 💞
