I am a little sad. I made a batch of blueberry soap last night. I added oatmeal (ground to a powder) and I used a liquid blue that I got from Bramble Berry. But it made my soap green, not blue! Makes me sad...

Oh I'm sorry. I know that feeling.

But on a positive side, the color may change as it cures. I posted a crying thread once about my rose colored soap being unmolded and the color of green pea baby poop. But everyday after that it turned darker carmel, to finally a burnt umber red brown. Still not what I wanted, but better than the fresh unmolded color.

I'm sure someone more experienced will be along shortly to explain why it happened.

Did your soap have a tinge of yellow to it?

Same thing happened to me when I tried to get blue - it came out green. Then when I thought about it, I realized that my soap base color was actually more yellow-y than white. Yellow + Blue=Green... at least 4 years of art school did not totally go to a waste, lol. This time around I made a soap with blue swirls and was more heavy-handed with the blue dye but I still have some green in there. I am by no means any sort of expert on this, but I was going to try coloring my soap white first then adding my colorant - maybe that will help.

Hi! You could try adding TD to your base batter before colouring, this may help if the green was caused by a yellowish batter + blue = green scenario....how much depends on your oil weight. For a 900 gram oil weight batch I added about half a tsp and had a lighter colour result. I haven't made blue toned soap yet though. HTH!

what colorant exactly from BB was it?

Blue- This is ultramarine blue crushed finely and dispersed in pure vegetable glycerin. If you've had clumping problems in your melt and pour before with this colorant, you'll be pleased at the ease of use for this liquid color. This color is non-bleeding!

this was the color I used.... Bummer...

then I agree it's likely you have yellowish soap to begin with which in turn impacted the blue... green

That is wierd though, I used the same recipe and my pink came out a beautiful shade of pink...nor orange... Maybe I just needed more blue....

Oh okay - you made MP soap that turned green? Not CP.....I'm sorry I assumed CP. If you used a clear MP base and it has even a slight amber/yellow tint you will get green, and I agree that more of the blue will probably help. If you want clear coloured soap DON'T use TD - that will make your soap opaque!

green pea baby poop
LOL!

Yes, as carebear said it sounds like your fo was yellow.

How about you name it blueberry bush? wrap it in pretty blue paper?

No, it was CP soap...but I use the same recipe all the time, and I have not had a problem with the color before...pink was pink, orange was orange, green was green....Blue has been the only problem color...

most blueberry fragrances i have tried are yellow right out of the bottle so mixing it with the blue..................gets green like everyone else stated.

if it has a fair amount of vanilla it in and most do, just give it time and the soap will be some shade of tan/brown in the end anyway.

the only blueberry i have found that doesn't turn burn is the one from sweetcakes.
