Ok, maybe “menace” is a bit dramatic, but it sounded cool.

Can anyone help me figure out what’s happening? I put my pull through column into a bucket wrapped in a heated blanket, then cover it with a couple towels and leave it on medium for a couple hours. It’s not super hot, just nice and warm. The heat should be pretty even in the bucket. 🤷🏻‍♀️
The top slices were exactly what I was hoping for. They were the top of my column mold. Then the orange and green both morphed towards the bottom. The orange just got darker. The green got blue. This was actually a test of the colors for a loaf soap I want to do.
Any idea what’s happening and why?
Thank you.

My guess is that it was hotter towards the bottom of the mold.

I didn’t realize “over gelling” was a thing. I don’t think it’s super hot, so I’d been leaving it on for a few hours. Maybe I should turn it off, like the oven?

I do like these colors and the design is beautiful!!
Thank you. I want to do a flag of Ireland soap, so I was testing colors. Do you think I’ll have the same issues in a loaf?

According to this blog post on the Nurture website, the orange micas tend to be heat sensitive. We also read fairly often about greens morphing to one color and then morphing back to green after a few days. As I recall, soap in a round pvc pipe tends to get hot on it’s own, so maybe the loaf mold is the solution, or maybe try those colors without insulating the pipe(?). Color matching is a pita!

Thanks. I think I’ll try turning the heating pad off when using orange and greens from now on.
