Hello,

I'd like to make milk soap (powdered or not).

I was planning to use, coconut oil, cocoa butter, high oleic sunflower oil, casto oil and kaolin.

Surfat at 5%

And 40% milk (weight of the oils)

Could somebody explain me how they would make soap with this ?
Which percentages would you use ?
Also for having 40% milk of the oil weights, how do you do it with powdered milk ?

Thanks

Hello and Welcome!

Run your recipe through a soap calculator. I would use a 31% lye concentration since you're fairly new. Mix the recommended amount of lye with an equal amount of the recommended water and dissolve your lye. With the difference, you can either use canned, refrigerated or powdered milk. Add the liquid milk to your oils and stick blend well. If using powdered milk I like to mix it with the remainder water in the recipe to dissolve it and avoid lumps. Then add that to your oils and mix well. When done add your cooled lye mixture.

So, if your recipe calls for 2.45 oz lye and 5.25 oz of water, Mix your lye with 2.45 oz water and dissolve. Take the remainder 2.8 oz and mix your powdered milk in it or add 2.8 oz of liquid milk.

This is how I've been making milk soaps for years.
