My first mica lines:

My first attempt at a mica line:

Second attempt: (WSP Amaretto Cocoa, bottom colored with cocoa powder). The batter got thick so there are some holes and gaps along the sides. Might try to mush them into "soap rocks" like on the SoapQueen tutorial.

Third attempt: I am in love. BB's Pino Grigio, colored with FD&C blue.

This is not a mica line so much as a mica spot. Soaping101 had an episode where she mixed mica with olive oil and dripped that into the soap batter, on the theory that the OO would saponify and you'd get bright spots and streaks of mica. Didn't really work for her, or for me.

Smells super good, though. Plum Wine from Just Scent. It actually has that wine top note. Hopefully it sticks!

That's awesome! I've had minor success doing the drop oil mica when using a lot. It appears as streaks of bright color, but not a lot. It's nice for an added pop, but it isn't as bold like shaking mica powder in a mica line. I've also had problems where the oil pooled and absorbed, causing a small air pocket crack. I still enjoy doing it, though, for a small pop of color here and there.
I really like the pinot grigio! The amaretto cocoa look nice too, very nice soaps!

Thanks!

I was doing the mica oil drop in a tube mold. I would plop in some soap, dribble some mica oil, then plop in more soap. Soap was heavier than the oil, so it kept pushing it up or to the side. So I have 2 bars with drops like that in them, and the others have a smear of mica on the sides

Nice!! Now I want to try that Pinot Grigio, but I promised myself I'd stop buying FO's for awhile after my Coconut spending spree. I love the micas you used!

I used FD&C Blue. I figured out how to use it without getting color EVERYWHERE. Seriously, it would take me two moppings to get it off the floor. The tinsiest grain will make a HUGE blue streak.

I got a pack of those paper Dixie cups and some cake pop sticks. I use a knife to scoop out a teesy amount of powder - less that 1/8 teaspoon, then dribble a little water on it (less than a tablespoon). Mix with the cake pop stick. Add to the the soap, and throw away the cup and the stick.

Dixie, does it bleed into the bathwater? I am having difficulty finding the line between enough and too much w/colorants in that respect, I guess it is just a trial and error thing. I don't mind if colors bleed in soap - I kind of like the look - but don't want me giftees to think they will be stained coming out of the tub :)
