I went ahead and made my first massage bar. I substituted the sweet almond oil for sunflower oil, and I didn't add the coconut oil as Ididn't have any. The lotion did not melt nor did it apply evenly. Could I possibly use my solid perfume recipe for a massage bar?
I reduced everything in half. Foy my test drive.
But this is what the original recipe called for
2 oz of bees wax
1 oz sweet almond oil
1 oz coco butter
10 drop of coconut oil
desired amount of fo

was it the problem caused --using the sunflower oil as a substitute?
Thanks.

My basic massage bar recipe is 1 part butter, 1 part oil, 1 part beeswax. However, cocoa butter is a really hard butter, so adding 2x the beeswax to an already hard butter might be causing the problem with the melting. I prefer shea butter, since it's a nice soft butter. I made these last night:

I used cocoa butter, shea butter and beeswax in a 4:1:1 ratio. I didn't use any oil, apart from the essential oils for scent and aromatherapy qualities.

I would suggest reducing the amount of beeswax and see how it goes. Good luck!

Your recipe is too hard. I also use shea instead of cocoa butter & more oil. Try melting it back down & adding more oil, 2 more oz of oil may be a better texture.

Ok. I shall remelt it and try again. Thanks so much for all the help I really appreachiate it. 8)

So I remelted and put an extra oz of liquid oils in my massage bar. It's working alot better but I think I need to go ahead and add a little more oil. :) Thanks you guys...

p.s. the best part was that my lavender eo didn't evaporate when I remelted it!

I've seen those seeds/beans in Lush massage bars... can someone tell me what they are?

Those are black turtle beans. They're smaller than regular black beans. I thought they'd add some texture and interest.
