I tried a Pumpkin Spice tonight - a 4lb batch ( ).

This is the recipe I used - does it look ok?

11.5oz water
7.2oz lye

15.3oz lard
15.3oz olive
12.8oz coconut
5.1oz sunflower
2.5oz pumpkin seed oil

3tsp sugar
1.5tsp salt
(both dissolved in the water before adding lye)

I blended the oils/lye together at 100* but only til mixed, then separated out 1/4 of the batter. To the bigger part I added 3oz pumpkin (the water was discounted 3oz for it) and 2.2oz FO (2oz Pumpkin Patch and 0.2oz Cinnamon Bun)

To the smaller portion I added 2tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice. I blended them both to trace and then mixed them in the molds for a (hopeful!) swirl.

Does this look good/ok? It smells good - the portion with the pumpkin in it turned RED and looked like tomato sauce! The other part is brown and didn't trace as heavily. Hopefully the swirl works out and everything melds together well..

I'll unmold and cut it tomorrow, so cross your fingers until then!!
:D

Already cut, looks and smells divine!

Yay!!! Congratulations on being so creative and adventurous for only your 2nd batch.....will love to see pics when you get them :D

Ran your recipe through soapcalc9 and it seems within range and very conditioning........should be good. Please give feedback on lather, feel etc when you use it!

Tanya :)

Still plan to work on the carrot cake soap - I plan to use carrot juice instead of water :)

Also I found some awesome "purple carrot juice" that I am trying to think of a recipe for.. looks like it'll give some great color!

I made one loaf (velveeta tub) and one square block (tupperware). The block is still soft in the middle because it's thicker, but the loaf is already unmolded and cut! Still a little soft but should be much better tonight. I do need to get a good soap cutter though - I'll need to trim the rough edges from my knife.
It smells HEAVENLY. Yum-O!!

(iPhone pic, sorry - not the best!)

They are definitely lighter now than when I poured them - they looked like DARK red tomato sauce then, and are more like orangey tomato soup now.. (lighter than the pic looks)
I'll try to get a better pic tomorrow when I find my camera.. I think it's in the car, which DH has at work..

They smell great, my whole house smells delish. I want to make my carrot batch now that my mold is free heehee

Those soaps look fantabulous! I love pumpkin spice soap. You did a good job, looks great coming right out of the molds you used. When I've added something wet, (like aloe vera gel) I hadn't thought of discounting my water. I will do that in the future; I think it'll make a world of difference. Also, based on the amount of scent you've used, I can see that I've been way too stingy when adding scent. Will work on that. Would love for my soaps to scent up the whole house!

the best cutter i've ever had i got at LOWE"S. in the sheetrock supplies there is an ultra thin taper's knife- it looks like a putty knife only wider-they come in all widths. get the thinnest blade-mine was all stainless a i believe it cost $8 and i've been using it for years.

my DH put an edge on it with his blade sharpener and it cuts thru soap like butter!
