I was just reading an early topic questioning whether M&P can get moldy. Soapbuddy said it was just soap ash. I didn't know that M&P got ashy. I did a couple of small decorative batches of M&P that got fuzzy on me. (fuzzy...for lack of a better term) So that was ash. I see.

What did I do to it to make it ashy? I sprayed the tops of the molds with alcohol while it was setting up. Everything turned ashy/fuzzy after I took them out of the molds. Should I have sprayed them again?

How do I prevent it from getting ashy again?

I don't want to waste that soap..I was just planning on melting it all down again and reusing it for something else. Good plan or since it's been ashy once already it'll get ashy again?

I find that my soap that goes ashy fastest if I've put them in the fridge to help unmould. It's the exposure to air that causes the white fluffy mold, try wrapping them in cling 24 hrs after you've done them, just to protect them. hope it works for you i hate wasting a batch.

Thanks Rose-ann. Wrapping them in cling wrap. Got it. Thanks for the reply.

I don't think I'm going to have to waste that batch. Just saw a process on Bramblberry/Soap Queen that mixed M&P with Cold process for a "lava" like swirl. Turns out when I remelted the M&P it turned out a fabulous purple color that I just love.

Might was give it a go with this stuff and see what happens!
