Lye

Hi there
I am very new to this forum and I dicided to make some home-made soap for my family. I realized that I need to get some "LYE" in order to make. Where do I need to buy lye? I am living in New Zealand and I have no idea where is the best place to get them. Shall I buy them from Chemist?

Im not sure in New Zealand, but you can ask a hardware store. Here you were able to buy it from the grocery store until people started using it for "illegal recreational fun" so they discontinued it.
