so i made some lotion with
70% Distilled Water
5% Stearic Acid
5% Emulsifing Wax
5% glycerine
5% shea butter
10% olive oil

.5 - 1% Preservative
~.5% Fragrance

when i mixed it it foamed up. i stired it some more but was still alittle foammy when i put it into jars. a few days later i used one as a sampler, after i started playing with it i noticed gold oil "puddles" it was the lavender oil! i stired it up and all the sudden i only had have a jar of lotion! and still some lavender oil puddles what did i do wrong?

Might not be much help since it has been quite awhile since I used ewax & stearic acid. But the % you have used is the same I have noted in some of my older recipes.

Your fragrance makes it 100.5---don't really think that would have done it.
If all ingredients were measured properly it could have been the temp you had when adding the fragrance. Or just not blending long enough to let it get emulsified, or a combination of having a slightly low temp & not mixing it long enough with the stick blender.

I have never had lotion foam up either. My guess is was your amount of lotion shallow in the pot or bowl that the SB was wipping air into it?

yeah my stick blender is what is making it foam i thought that was just normal. and whould settle when it cooled but it didnt. :/ i will stir by hand maybe that will help. i use the ewax from brambleberry.com. maybe becuase of the foam the scent didnt mix well? thanks guys for the suggestions :)

I had a similar thing happen, with a very small recipe & the SB. Think of it like a choc mousse-the air makes it light, thick & fluffy. But if the air gets shaken out it's runny & 1/2 the volume.
So I think the air bubbles make the lotion seem thickened & 'ready',when actually it hasn't emulsified enough. :)
