I'll start off by saying yes, I know CP soap can damage hair so please lets not make this about do it vs don't do it.

I've used ginny's soap in the past and liked it well enough but I want to try something different, something more cleansing without any shea. In fact, I'd prefer not to use any hard oils except coconut. Hard oils seem to make more soap scum and with my hardish water, I don't need that.

So if you have a shampoo recipe that goes against the normal recommended recipes I'd love to give it a try.

I might be the nutjob here - but have you tried a salt bar on your hair? I use it sometimes and it cleans super well, rinses fabulously, and leaves my hair glossy.

I'm not using anything for scum but even if I was, my original recipe just isn't cleansing enough. I need to keep my scalp extra clean.

Yes, I have tried a salt bar, it was terrible. I'm thinking the SF is too high, my hair doesn't like oils left on it.

I have some liquid coconut soap I was thinking about trying.

Yes- besides being a wonderful chelator in soap, tetrasodium EDTA is also a DOS-preventer, and a preservative-booster as well. What I mean by "preservative booster" is that it works in conjunction with preservatives to enhance their performance. Just in case anyone reading gets me wrong, it doesn't directly kill bacteria and mold, etc. like preservatives do, but it makes it difficult for such things to digest their 'food' (basically it starves them and makes them weak). I use it in my soap to chelate, and also in my lotion as part of my preservative system along with Phenonip.

Edited to add- why not try a salt bar without a high super-fat?

IrishLass :)

Thanks for all the info. I'll order some EDTA, it seems easier then always having to calculate extra lye when using CA, especially for a math inept like me

Well, because I don't have any and I don't really want to wait 6+ months for it cure. I need something fairly quickly while my scalp is acting up, this won't be a regularly used shampoo, just when needed.

What I do have is a 50/50 coconut/olive with 10% SF and some 100% coconut with 0% SF. Not sure I really want to try either of those.

I'll have to look through my stash, what else I have that might work.
