I tried to make liquid soap with the paste method indicated in Catherine Failor's book using a double boiler.
After reaching trace I put the pot into the double boiler. As I used a 10 litre pot for making a very small batch the paste was hardly covering the bottom of the pot and the pot was floating in the water. I boiled it for two hours, but it never reached the thicker, taffy stage, it just stayed in the applesauce stage and didn't get translucent.
I thought that maybe it has not reach the required temperature, actually it never puffed up.
Could that be the reason why it got stuck in the applesauce stage?
Will I reach a higher temperature using a smaller pot for a small batch?
Or should I try to thicken it putting the pot directly on the stove? (without using the doble boiler)
