We have a cabin in the mountains just over an hour north of our primary residence. We love to host friends for weekends up there when we have the chance. Usually about once a month. Anyway I generally wash and dry the linens and make all the beds when I leave. Then when we come back, even though the linens are clean, they feel a bit stale. I generally get to the cabin a few hours ahead of our guests to get ready, get drinks cooling in the fridge, set the heat or ac to a livable temp, air out the rooms, etc. I was thinking it would be nice to give the beds or rugs a spritz of something to freshen them a bit. As a rule I use detergent that is for sensitive skin, so would not use the spray for those with allergies or sensitivities. I found a recipe on Pinterest that was just vodka(because it evaporates quickly) with essential oils.
Has anyone else made something like this and if so, any suggestions?

Yes, I tried it some years ago. It works, although you really have to be careful to shake the mixture well as you use it, because the EO doesn't mix into the vodka. I'd be more inclined nowadays to add enough polysorbate 80 to solubilize the EO so everything can mix together, rather than the EOs float on top.

I make and use linen spray all the time. If you can get your hands on Everclear (190-proof grain alcohol), you won't have any problems with separation or have the need to shake your spray.... at least I never do- all my FOs and EOs mix nicely in Everclear and stay mixed....... and my spray evaporates pretty much instantly on contact. Vodka is my second dilutant of choice (I use it whenever I'm running low on Everclear). It has more water in it than Everclear, so you'll either need to add some PS 80 to your spray to keep the EO from separating out and floating on top, or resign yourself to shaking it right before you spray.

This from the old Snowdrift Farms website:

Lavender Linen Water

Sprinkle on sheets or other other linens to freshen. Spray on linens before ironing.

1 teaspoon (100 drops) lavender essential oil

5-10 drops peppermint, spearmint or rosemary essential oil (optional)

2 oz. formulator's alcohol

24 oz. distilled water

Pour essential oils and alcohol into a bottle, cap and shake to emulsion. Mix with distilled water. Mix will cloud, and eventually separate.
Shake well before each use.

Lavender Linen
Water II

Sprinkle on sheets or other other linens and cottons to freshen. Spray on to linens before ironing.

1 teaspoon (100 drops) Bulgarian lavender essential oil

6 oz. cyclomethicone

Pour essential oils and cyclomethicone into a bottle, cap and shake. Spray on dry linens before ironing or use as a fabric freshener (no need to iron).
