I use olive oil, coconut oil, rice bran oil, castor oil and cocoa butter. I'd love to make my bars a little firmer ... to do this, how much salt would you recommend, and at what stage of making CP soap do I add the salt?

Thanks!

You can use any skin safe fragrance material in any recipe. As with your other recipe request, we would recommend searching here and online, and/or visiting millersoap.com for ideas. Another great resource is soapcalc.net to learn about what qualities different oils can contribute should you wish to create your own.

I've never found that salt does squat for hardness (unless I'm making a salt bar where the salt is in huge quantities). Salt was used way back when sodium hydroxide wasn't available and people made their own caustic out of ashes - but that was potassium based caustic. Then salt was boiled with the soap to convert the potassium salts of fatty acids (soft soap) to sodium salts.
