Despite the fact that I personally despise lavender, the few soaps I have made with it don't seem to hold their fragrance. Is this typical of lavender?
The first one was EO only and it smells a bit 'oily'. Not rancid, but just not particularly nice. I wonder if this is just because i don't like lavender or if it genuinely smells that way.
The tiger stripe challenge entry which was lavender and liquorice had a good strong balance of lavender with the liquorice to start, and now I feel the lavender seems to be fading. For this one I used 50/50 Lavender EO AND Lavender FO for the lavender component (which was 75% of the total fragrance added).
Thoughts and comments welcome.

My lavender fades. I like the scent of lavender, and initially my bar smells nice but fades out.

Lavender EO fades for me too so I started blending it with lavender FO, which has helped a bit. The thing I notice most about lavender is, if I'm going to get DOS, it's going to be in a lavender soap. I've started making small batches of lavender so it's used up before anything icky rears it's ugly head.

Yes I'm pretty sure @penelopejane said the same thing once before?

I only have lavandin, not real lavender, but it's the worst fader I have.

Oh - I have lavandin grosso, but i thought it was the same thing, is it not?

Nope, not the same[emoji6] here's an article explaining the difference https://www.jerseylavender.co.uk/2018/12/07/lavender-vs-lavandin/
In France they told me if you just want the scent you use lavandin, if you want the aromatherapy properties you use the 'real' lavander, which is way more expensive. So in that regard lavandin is the way to go for soapmaking (except it doesn't stick at all[emoji19] )

I read that lavandin was better for soap because of the higher levels of camphor which helps it stick better.

Hmm well I have no experience with 'true' lavander so it might even be worse! [emoji12]

I used lavender FO and it faded. I thought it was something I did, like didn't use enough. Glad to hear that was not the problem.

FWIW, lavender does oxidize over time and that's not a good thing. If the aroma has an "off" smell -- not exactly a rancid smell, but maybe a little bit along that line -- it's probably oxidized. I can say from my reading and from personal experience that oxidized lavender EO will trigger rancidity (DOS) in soap, so using it up by putting it in soap is not a good way to use up older lavender EO.
