I just wanted to share my biggest and most complicated soap adventure so far  (my 4th batch)

Its lavendar chamomille and lots of other stuff like beeswax and honey and oats and too many oils...well like 6 oils 8) It got very hot when I added the coconut milk and tea with honey to the lye / fat mix and after i got it to trace and put the fire on it (i'm too impatient for CP, must HP) it seperated a bit, so I ran in with the stick blender and had to blend and mix until it was all thick again. (maybe it didn't need any fire?) Then it turned vaseline looking and stayed that way the rest of the time, 1 hr later even though it still looked like this i took a bit and let it kool and tasted, no zap! so then i turned off heat and waited another 15 mins, and it wasn't cooling at all. I decided to put it in the mold to cool added some chamomille tea powder for texture and some EO and tucked it in for the night. Cut it in the morning and it smelled skunky...

What did I do wrong or should I have done differently. I'm happy with the soap so far, but I know it could have been done better had I a better understanding of things. :?

I'm a bit bummed since I don't think i can make any more lye batches for awhile until my window gets fixed, I got kinda sick from the fumes this time. :(

Looking goog

They look pretty good to me so congrats on the tidy ness of your batch,
You may find it smells okay as time goes by.
Watch those fumes as you say. There can be long term nerve damage that you wouldn't want through chemical fume inhalation.

Those look great! Give it some time on the scent. I had one soap (Strawberry Cream) take 3 weeks before the soap smelled good.

Did you use chamomile e.o.? I don't like the smell of chamomile myself. You soap looks nice and golden, like honey.

They are really nice looking. I'd let them cure and see if the skunky smell goes away. That's happened to me before , but it went away in time...

Those are lovely! I had a really skunky soap recently that I thought I was going to ha,ve to toss, but after a couple of weeks the skunky smell totally disappeared and all that was left was the intended lavender scent. Beeswax often has a pretty strong smell, and sometimes warm oats can give it a less than pleasant smell at first. Those fade, though, so I think you should be fine. Congratulations on doing something so complex!

 you guys are too sweet!

The skunkiness has faded and now the lavendar anc chamomille is coming out. It is very subtle not very strong smell, but I like it that way. It is still a bit soft though (i think i over did a bit on the liquids by about 4 oz.)

Isg - i did use chamomille EO, i used german chamomille in jojoba and it was dark blue!

That soap looks very warm and inviting......very nice! I agree with everyone else. I've made soap that smelled yukky for awhile then the smell morphed into what I thought it should. On the other hand, I've made soap that smelled awesome when I first took it out of the mold and it morphed into something that smelled yukky to me. But everyone else seemed to like it  . You just never know. That's one of the great things about soap making.......you just never know for sure what's going to happen.
