I made laundry soap 100% Coconut oil 0 % super fat added 1:1:1 powdered soap; Washing Soda: borax I washed towels this is what is left in my washer ... sooo I think it is getting stuff out of my clothes.. but not breaking it down any suggestions??

Hmmmm, I can't really tell what your picture is. Did you use vinegar in the rinse. If you don't, the soap will sometimes leave a residue with gunk in it. Usually black moldy looking.

No I did not use a rinse - yes gunk, like greese ring around my washer.. sorry pic is not clear I tried to downsize it..

Glad its gone! DH asked me to quit using my own soap. Same recipe as yours. The clothes weren't getting dingy.

I wash my soap molds in the dishwasher all the time and it left a coating around the rim of the disposal area of the dishwasher, my husband complained because it was doing this so I went to walmart and got one of those dishwasher cleaner things and it cleaned it right up. MAYBE...if you can find out what is in those, you can make it yourself and clean up your washing machine.

I dont use my soap straight, I use it mixed with one of those cheap Kroger boxes of powdered soap, and a cheap container of oxyclean mixed in with it. I havent had a problem with it thus far.

Yeah dingy. They were getting grubby looking. Whites had a yellow tinge. When I washed with normal detergent they were clean again.

We have really hard water. Maybe that had something to do with it.

You have to use a vinegar rinse to cut the soap scum. Instead of soap for laundry, I use a mix of wasing soda, baking soda, and Oxiclean. It seems to work well. And yes, I still use vinegar in the rinse cycle.

I'll try that as soon as I run out .. I had only made a small batch .. Thank goodness

This is just a guess but it sounds like most of these problems are related to unsaponified fatty acids sticking to the clothes and washing machine.

I didn't mind using my soap for laundry soap, I never got a ring in my washer or anything noticeably stuck to my clothes, like scum (I did vinegar rinse though).

But I went back to Tide for the tasty smell! I am hooked.
