Here's one I did over the weekend!

It is scented with an ocean breeze fragrance, and I tried to make it look like there were white cap waves goin' on. I'm very happy with how it came out! :D

I bevelled these ones (I think I'll bevel them all from now on) with my new beveller/planer from Kangaroo Blue. Absolutely LOVE it - high quality and came amazingly fast! http://kangarooblue.com/index.php?main_ ... ucts_id=91

Anyway, here she is...

Those came out AWESOME!!!! I love that color blue!!! I'm trying to decide whether I like the bevel better or the other way better. They're both so nice!! They probably FEEL better beveled. Which color was the top pour?

Great job, Ashley!!

Thanks! LJA - I kinda like the look of the straight edge soaps better, but since they are big bars as it is, I thought customers would appreciate the bevelled edges when it came to actually using the soap. I like the look of unbevelled but the feel of bevelled. ;) I never know whether I should bevel or not!

The blue colour is a blend of "Blue mix" and "Aqua" Premixed Lab Colours! I used 1 oz of Blue Mix, and 1/2 oz. of Aqua for a 3.25 lb batch of oils. I'm finding with the premixed lab colours, I need to use at least 1/2 oz. per batch to get good colour. I cut back the water in my recipe to accomodate it!

Hmmm...I don't think mine are premixed. (I'll have to check Brambelberry). I literally only use 2 or 3 drops straight from the bottle. One bottle makes 8 oz. of colorant when water is mixed with it (so that must mean mine isnt pre-mixed...duh) but I've been chicken to do anything but straight from the bottle. I always feel like it'll dilute the color even though it isn't supposed to. I think you have to preserve it after adding water too. It's a nice color system though. I like them. I just need about $10,000 more to spend on all those goodies.

What size bottle do you get with the pre-mixes? Great job on the blue combo! Perfect for waves.

The premixes I got came in teeny 2 oz. bottles. I just tried these for the first time a couple of weeks ago so I ordered the smallest size of each colour. Now that I know how awesome they work I've placed an order for more of the concentrated kind. I'll have enough to make 16 oz. of each colour, but I may try them straight and see how I like them that way!

I kinda like them being premixed because if there's any issues with acceleration or your soap gets too thick, the extra water from the colourants helps to thin it back out a bit. I have found that helpful in a couple of cases!

Ashley that's an awesome effect you acheived. Lots of movement in those layers -- very artistic and unique -- and the colors look great.

I'm with you on the bevelling issue.... I too cut my soaps pretty thick and that first shower with a new bar of soap can be a bit rough with the sharp edges. But that first use usually softens the edges a good bit.

I really love the rustic, handmade look of unbevelled soap..... do your customers tell you they prefer bevelled?

I don't have any customers yet! :( LOL. I'm planning my grand opening for June. :)

I have given lots of soap away though and most have told me they like the feel of a bevelled bar. I also find that people in my area have not really been... exposed to handmade soap, so I'm thinking I should start out making it look as much like "regular soap" as possible and see how it goes. I am all for jazzing it up with colours and funky techniques, though! I have already had PLENTY of questions like "So... ummm... how do you make soap? Do you use stuff from your baking cupboard? You use OILS? Won't that make me break out?" etc. etc. Soooooo we're going to ease into it slowly! Haha

Ahhhhhh......I can feel a cool breeze just looking at your soap!! Beautiful job!! :)
