A saponification chart got me hooked on soap making. This was my 1st lard with soy soap creation. 3%SF, added sodium citrate @ 2% of oils, 2:1 H2O ratio w/ 33% lye concentration. I’m loving the soap. Very smooth, creamy, bubbly & firm!

1st image after cut & 2nd after cure. Love them! 🥰 Sandalwood vanilla FO
My unscented Neem oil with 60% lard bars still curing. Unscented. Looking forward to them being done. Thank for sharing the recipe for Neem oil bar on SMF.

No soft oil? Looks like a missed opportunity to me – but it's fine when you are happy with the outcome. :)

Was the FO advertised as non-discolouring? And/or did you something against the browning? (I mean, except of the TD that you didn't stir up well enough 🤫)

I love the wet-in-wet watercolour look of the turquoise swirl!

Poor little ole Castor oil not getting any credit? 😂 I
I added TD to hot my lye solution. Hate the stuff honestly. Never turns out. The FO not labeled as discoloring but with vanilla in the name, I assumed. Plus 2nd bottle of the stuff. Sticks Gr8. Didn’t want dark brown & blue bar. Prefer tan.

Quite the converse! ;) In my head, there are two types of oils: the singular castor oil, and the “all others” category (and only those are further subdivided into hard, soft, lauric oils …)

I asked about the discolouration because I'm still waiting for my own vanilla brown, that still doesn't just want to emerge. Is it the lard? Is it the citrate?

Love those soft colors together, and sandalwood vanilla is one of my faves, too. PLUS it's a lard bar. Sisters from another mother. :)

I feel the same way. So...

I use 1 tsp. to 1 Tbls PPO white Kaolin clay to lay down a white foundation for a colored batch. It's a lot cheaper, no-fuss alternative that adds a bit of lather too... or is that just my imagination? 🤔
