I hatched a new good batch.
Here it is :
http://www.stardustsoaps.com/soapbox/to ... -big-time/

So thrilled cause the one I haven't said anything about was the second half of the batch from spell bound which I had set a side the oils and lye mixture seperately is still ever so slowly hardening up.I think I erred there in not quite mixed enough. I will revisit it in the new year.
So a new good batch heals those wounds.

Fantastic!!
That is exactly what I want to try with the cupcakes, I love cupcakes, so cupcakes soap is perfect!!
And yes I agree, nothing heals the hurt from a batch that didn't go to plan like the next successful one.
I am still upset over my seized batch the other day, but am going to use half of it to shred for salt bars and the other half cut into cubes to stir through at thick trace.,Hopefully that will all go to plan!!

Sort of whipped.

The whipped soap was sort of whipped as I have done before. Last nights lot took ages to get thick and didn't thicken as much as the base.I know why. I had use some coconut cream to mix the colouring , almond and lavender in that half. I think if I had put some of the lightly traced oil in it it would have been as hard as the base. By that late stage I had soap everywhere. It was one of those times.3 shirt changes so much soap had sunk thru.
I initially whipped up in 20 litre bucket with battery drill and paint stirrer. If I wasn't such a mess and running out of work shirts and time I would have put it aside and rested while it thickened for an hour or so.
Then I put some of the mixture in my newly retrieved 30 year old Kenwood cake mixer and used the blender on the other. I would pour back into the big bucket that lot and pour back in to the kenwood bowl another lot everyso often. Are you detecting a trend of total devotion here.?

I will add that I mixed up the lye the night before so it was room temp and had done the same mixing devotion to the plain oils before. So everthing was room temp yesterday. Approx 28 degrees .Altho I have done this in colder temps.

The Icing being runny was the challenge , I was picturing burning out my $9.50 blending stick. Stick no 2. The other was dearer and went sooner.

I have seen a second hand floor standing chefs mixer for $320.00 aus It has no mixer parts though.Any thoughts on that one.
Thankyou so much for your delightful comments.Mum and my Nanna had a Cake kitchen complete with two tables for teas many moons back .My mum has been a Chef and still cooks in her studio / kitchen. Yes it all wasn't in vain after all. I never ever thought I would follow them. Good old genes.

PS: I read and reread Nizzy's instructions and others on this forum before first doing my semi whip. My freezer is too small to take much lye and oils so thats out.

Cute!

Jeez, you are so talented!

Your lavender cupcakes are devine, starduster! Definitely soaping is a 'labour of love' for you. If your slower 'spellbound' is gradually hardening then it may just need time and TLC

Topcat :)

Thanks I kinda thought that too so I hid it away for now. Actually I threw in a lot of lavender as well as the youth dew perfume so I will need to rename that I think.
I adore your new avatar.
Pretty in pink.

Hi Chrissy - have you tried your cupcake soaps yet? If so we really, really want pics!

P.S: I'll do it too if you do it first!

Maybe it's an age thing.
My little ones are grown up so I have that extra time to devote to the soaping phenomana that has entered my life.Or maybe it's the magic of the mountain.
Bet your soaps are wondeful.
Thankyou so much tho.

Painted cupcakes

Since taking them out of the flixable cup cake molds I hand painted them.I will post a photo.
I am so pleased with the effect that I am thinking that airbrushing would be extremelly effective.
I got the idea of painting them from someones earlier post with gorgeous fairy mold soaps and someone suggested she paint them with mica. Seeing the before and after photos was inspirational. Thats how valuable this forum is.
Note I used round single then a tray of oval and still need more cup cake latex molds so indesperation used the star molds upside down and viola' the stars look cute enuff with"icing" perched on top that I would do cupcakes again that way.

Anther 3 weeks and they will look even cheekier.
Maybe I had better put do not eat lables on them.

Hi Tanya,
no I haven't done any yet. I have small silicone cupcake holders but not big ones, I think the big ones will be better so I will have to get some. I am waiting for some new colours to come as well!!

Close Ups

Took a look at the close up you had in your last post...man, they look just scrumptious (sp)! Makin' me hungry! :D

Yeah, mine are still in elementary school. They are all in full time now. So, that does free up a lot more time for me. But it ends up going to running errands and housekeeping. LOL

and as much as I loved my 3 boys and still do ,I remember saying to my self things like ,when they grow up and I have some time to myself I am going to get so much more done.As it was I soldered on just like you are.Burning the midnight oil, running a buisness, studying and feeding my boys when the I am hungry cries got too loud.Just as well they don't read this forum.
They follow in their mums foots steps though and try out all sorts of unusual things ,so all in all it made them more resilient. The oldest has already soaped with me http://www.stardustsoaps.com/soapbox/sp ... ure-story/ and I reckon as soon as the middle one ,Daniel, comes and has ago he will drop his tie dyed clothing he does to supplement his income and he too will become hooked on bubbles. If I was a gambling person I would bet a case of my best soaps on it.
So hang on in .It is all worth it. You have to make it so.
:) :) :)

;) Thanks! Mine are 7, 5 and 4 at the moment. Boy, Girl, Boy.

Thy want to make soaps with me so bad. But I have yet to allow them to. Considering I do it by scratch with the lye and all. :?

I am considering letting them do a rebatch with me. Or maybe putting together a Glycerin MP kit for christmas....since we can't do any name brand gifts this year.

I sometimes day dream and think about how it might be when my daughter is older. Who knows what she will be "into" by that time. But how nice it would be if she is still as interested in the things that I do...as she is now. She's only 5 now...but going on 16.

Just a little involvement

Too too young. No point in risking them, the ingredients atc.But some melt and pour as a special celebration gift would be the go. Make it all formal like a gift card you give to them for xmas.
My sons are all grown up. We had Emily my 7 year old Grandaughter involved at the decision table, chopping up rose petals, putting out the molds and other safe activities. No where near the lye..
She still felt very involved and exhausyed from it all

Exactly. Yeah, I am a big all natural/safe/nontoxic freak! Anyone who knows me personally woul attest to that immediately.
Why I do my soaps when they are in school. Or in bed. Preferrably in school, so I am not up till 2 am cleaning up. LOL

I have never used MP, mainly because of my sole interest in CP. But for the kids...since they LOVE crafts and so want to feel involved in what I do...I think the MP would be perfect.

Our whole family seems to be left...err...I mean...RIGHT brained. LOL Both my parents are that way. So, I am not surprised that so much of that gene has been passed down, even to my children. My MIL is also very creative. Muscians, Painters, Jewelry Makers, Dried Florals, and now me with the soaps and such.

I will not be surprised if my boys and daughter end up being inclined to create more than anything!
