now i am wondering what this is....

Well, everything was great with my soap, perfect thin trace, pulled some out, no fragrence, added the purple, and poof, starts to smell like hair dye and turns gray green color.... well i watched a video on using the utlramarine violet and mine does not look like that, mine is more of a pink burgandy color....

I wonder what I have.... I don't want to have to drive all the way back up to the store to find out....

I went directly to the store to get supplies and they didn't have a lot on the shelves, so he went upstairs and put 4 colors in bags for me, that aren't labeled. I was told it was ultramarine blue, ultramarine violet, and green oxide that would not morph or bleed in cold process soap.....

My oils... equal parts:
Olive
Palm
Coconut
GRRRR

Well at least I only put it in a small portion of my soap..... here is a picture of the colors I got... any advise?

In the picture the blue actually looks slightly darker blue, not as bright, and the green is the same, a little darker, not as bright the white and purple color in the picture is the actual color.

I truly feel your pain. Mine keeps happening when I use fragrance oils. But the essentials do pretty well. I hate that!

I've had ultramarine violet morph on me once. I've never used it again. If I want purple I use FD&C Blue #1. That one always turn purple in CP soap.

Soapbuddy, is FD&C a brand name? Sorry to sound dumb , but I would love to get purple soap and mine morphs too
FD&C means Food, Drug & Cosmetics. This company carries liquid blue http://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au/BR ... pr-37.html
This powder sounds the same and looks the same http://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au/Dy ... pr-25.html
It says "This Colour is a: Powdered Lake Dye (FD & C)". They are in Australia. If you decide to get the powder, a very LITTLE will go a long way.

All my blues seem to turn to purple when I use salt in my soap. I've tried liquid and powder. First one was with salt water from the ocean..I thought I'd get a beautiful ocean blue with a white foamy top...nope...purple...the last one was a batch for my son with irish spring scent. My oils were yellower in color so I thought I would add blue to get a nice swirly green....nope...a lovely shade of purple though.

I may have to try a batch without any salt and see what happens but I don't really want purple soap..guess I'll try a floral fo to go with it and pretend I meant for it to happen.

It ended up....

It ended up having a pink outside and greenish inside.... horrible, smells like a bad chemical reaction occurred too!

Don't know if I want to even bother rebatching since it is such a small amount and it doesn't smell right, I don't know if it is safe....

Oh well, live and learn, soaping is so much fun, there's always something interesting going on, and I have my safe recipes so I am never feeling hopeless.... I love it!

If you go to www.heirloombodycare.com and click on Recipes - then go to swirling in cp soap with a coathanger, there is a photo there where they have used ultramarine in their soap and it comes out a lovely mauvey/purple. I haven't tried it yet,the site is on hols at the moment, but I think I'll order some when they come back and try it out.

Relle.

Thanks Relle , thats a great link .....only thing I was a bit worried about was I thought that the coathangers were aluminium...maybe not ???

Definately going to try it though

Do you think that the purple

in the picture is ultramarine violet?

I watched a video on it Teach soap using colorants.... it seems like the color I have is different... what do you think?

Does anyone else have some that looks more purple/pink than purple/blue?

Also when it morphs does it give off a feumy smell?

Is it possible you received manganese violet from your supplier instead of the ultramarine? Manganese violet is not CP soap stable and might have caused you problem. Dottie

Until I started using Pop micas I had a tough time with getting a nice purple. I also had a dead fish gray color from my ultramarine violet. I've been told you need to add a goodly amount of umv to get the right color.

Like Judy until I went to Pop Micas purple was hit and miss. The only time I got lucky was when I did a mix of FD&C Blue & Red - then I got a gorgeous deep, deep purple.

I am in love with POP micas as well as the Neon Micas.
