I've just used my first bar of castille soap which I made a few weeks ago. I love the way it leaves my skin, but I think it feels horrible to touch!!

Is there anything I could add to the recipe to cut down on the 'slimyness'? :?

I've found the longer it cures, the less slimy it feels. I'm talking months...like 4-5 months. But I really can't stand the feel so I quit making castille.

I have never made castille with water, so I can't really compare----but I make it with Buttermilk as the liquid. It never struck me as being slimy.

Ditto on the long cure.

Ya, I don't understand the slimy thing. I hear it a lot on the forum, but I love 100% OO castile and it doesn't feel slimy to me, just silky smooth with a creamy, lotion-like lather. It's the only soap I can use on my face without my rosacea flaring up.

One other suggestion is to make sure you put your soap on a well ventilated soap dish. If the soap sits in water (such as in the shower or a concave dish with no air circulating) it will not have a chance to dry out between uses.

My first batch was mostly OO. When I first started using it (too soon) it seemed to be slimly to the point of feeling gross. It's been a few weeks now and doesn't seem slimy at all any more just very moisturizing. I think it's nice to get a highly moisturizing bar without any fancy stuff.

Castile salt bars don't feel slimy, at least not to me.
I noticed adding beeswax (the raw kind that comes in chunks straight from the beekeeper) to pure castile soaps (not castile salt bars) gives it a different consistency too. Beeswax also makes a nice smelling unscented bar.
From my experience also using a soap saver pocket/cloth keeps the slime away from regular castile.
I use something like this with mine:

Drying it well between usages is however very important.
Maybe if you try to felt it you would get the same effect ... felted castile on a rope sounds fun to make :)
