Hello to all😊 I have a question, probably a dumb one.. I'm not sure of the answer though and believe me I searched before I asked..ok, I attempted to make a shave soap for my neighbor since,he is my test subject 😂 he mentioned that's why he likes homemade soap for shaving. So I was on a mission to make one for him..came up with a recipe and I substituted 3.34 oz of glycerin and have 5.34 of water for a total of 8.68..well ya know it..it's sweating, glycerin dew, whatever you wanna call it,I got it😔..I don't have a dehumidifier and no fan, wipe and comes back.. decided to put next door since no one lives there to see if helps cut down on dew seems dryer 🤔 😂..I need to cement outside due to water now coming in on heavy rain😔my question is,is it still curing?...thank you

In my mind curing, (finishing the saponifcation process), and moisture evaporation are two separate things. Your soap may be finished saponifying, but yet retain more moisture because of humidity/

Thank you its 6-8 weeks are up at the end of September beginning of October so hopefully I will have the outside cemented this coming week and can move my shave soap back, just moved about a hour ago and going to check on in a bit to see if have dew on them over there ..thank you

You don't have to keep wiping the soap. Just elevate it on some of the plastic craft mesh and wait it out. It will eventually stop sweating.
Awesome thought it might leave spots of didn't wipe..now to figure out how to elevate 👍🤔😊

Great to hear he is into it! 😃 He won't get rid of you anytime soon 😂

Is this one of these fancy shave soap recipes with KOH/dual-lye + pure stearic acid, or is it a rather conventional recipe for a bar soap that's just tuned for shaving, like extra hard oils + glycerol?

Oh ya,he's stuck with me now😂no not fancy at all and had hard time with powdered milk so strained it so probably none on it😒
. I keep asking him questions and what I should do and get I really like it😊this man has tried 6 recipes😂 7 curing now total 14 different recipes have one more I'm working on before I start to get one narrowed down and try make good👍ps I have no business trying to make a shave soap, hard enough to come up with regular CP soap recipe 😔🤔😂

OK, thanks! So it's a “normal” soap bar recipe, just with plenty of stearic oils and castor, plus some 10% TOM extra glycerol. The oils look fine (not sure how castor would affect water-pulling behaviour, the one time I made a soap that high in castor, it was exceptionally dry in fact).

Seems like indeed the glycerol is the culprit. It's quite a bit, you added about the amount that would be in there naturally from the oils. Maybe a tad too much to stay dry under your current conditions 😓. Not a lot to fix now that the soap is already made.
I'm not sure if the amount of glycerol is really needed. Might help if you could cut it down (and add a bit to the sugar – improves solubility too, but sugar isn't as hygroscopic as glycerol).

Do I see it right that you have it sitting next to a sink? Better put it at the driest point in the flat, and if it's in the bedroom wardrobe, just that you avoid any extra water.
And wat ya doing with that poor cookbook? 😱

Ya think added way to much glycerin..took a quick pic when took next door of the the straws underneath to suspend and had to use the cookbooks so wouldn't fall through the slots during transfer to neighbors have to bring back over,my son on law said probably rats over there 😬don't want them eating it after all this😳
