I am going to FINALLY do the cp method after years of doing m&p. I have an issue, I paid $53.00 for a video that was guarenteed to show me how to make cp soap. I got the video, and after hours of having issues downloading it I finally got it and was COMPLETELY dissappointed. The video is NO different than watching you tube vids.
I have written to the maker of the vid and have requested my money back. I am normally not one to do this kind of thing, but I was really not happy with this video. My question is this:
Has anyone else paid for this video? Did you like it? Did you hate it like me? I just want to make sure its not just me.......thank you so much!

http://www.soapmakingfun.com/---this is where I got the video from!

Oh that's too bad. Bummer! I've never bought any videos, only books that were highly recommended....even those were a disapointment to me. They would have been great in the beginning though.
Hopefully the will refund you.

:( Hope they'll refund you... Actually, everything I needed to learn CP I found on the internet. You can search for tutorials, or if you have any questions you can always start a topic or PM me when needed.

Thanks for the support. I dont know who owns the website. I cant figure that out. I am trying to figure that out though.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the same video I bought. Disappointing would be putting it mildly. I wonder if the guy demonstrating has ever even made soap himself. When I tried my first batch I couldn't get it to trace because I was stirring it the way he was demonstrating it - slowly and gently stirring with a whisk. Live and learn I guess. Sorry you got taken in too. Whoever put that video out there should be ashamed of themselves.

I hope you get fully refunded for the video...$53.00 is pretty steep for something that did nothing for you in the way of learning about CP methods.

Everything I learned about soap making was also from the Internet. I basically went on every forum and reputable web site I could find, made notes, and then began experimenting. The bad thing about this, is there are some pretty bogus advice floating out in cyberspace about soap making (a la "Nancy Today" on YouTube), so you have to learn what the reliable information actually is...

From the web site:

"It is all available instantly upon making your order and you have a full 8 weeks to test it out. If you don't learn how to make soap in that time, just send me an email and I will give your money back!"

So I guess if you can make soap, any soap, you could be told to go sit on a cactus. But this implies "satisfaction guaranteed" if you ask me.

I don't think I'd pay $53 for any video, especially a tutorial video... but at least they have a "satisfaction guaranteed" policy. Hopefully, they'll stick to it.

Actually, there are some pretty good YouTube vids on soaping.....you just have to sort through them.

I have emailed the contact email twice now and have had NO response as of yet. I dont know if I can contact the better business bureau or what I can do about this. I will not be letting this go, I believe that I was taken for a major ride and I am sure there has been numerous others. I know that I should not have paid that kind of money for anything like this, however I guess I was desperate to learn cp soaping. Anyway, I will keep everyone up to date on this.

I, too, was sucked in by the video and found it to be HORRIBLE. I never said anything as any time I would have taken to complain was being used to search the internet for decent videos. I don't think it cost me $53. though, I think I got in on some 1/2 off deal or something. Still no deal. He's raking in money on videos that suck!

I'm so sorry :(

If he doesn't respond and if you paid with Paypal or a credit card you can dispute the charge. If you paid with a debit card you can contact your bank and see what, if anything, they can do. You might be able to get your money back if you notify them fast enough.

I get e-newsletters from that company all the time and always wondered about the video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on it, though. You probably saved several of us from buying it!

Well, I have never heard of this person or their video, but the flip side being, you did buy it. If you go see a movie, buy/read a book, etc & you don't like the way it ended, etc, you don't get your money back. It's just one of those things. Unless, as carebear mentioned, there is a money back guarantee of some sort.

That guy was spamming soap making boards a few months ago. I'm sorry you got taken in by it/him. If there's a moneyback guarantee, maybe you can exercise your rights. BUT...depending on the stipulations, you may be SOL. Because guaranteeing you will know how to make CP (not good CP, but CP nonetheless) is as simple as:

Add measured lye to water
Add to measured oils
Put in mold.

That will be $53, please.... ;)

Maybe if you send an email outlining why you are not happy with the context of the video, and also be a bit more specific. Say that you had to join an online soaping forum and ask experienced soapers for clarification on issues within that video because you couldn't understand it. I'd then also say that upon learning from more experienced soapers, you believe that the information that he is giving is not proper procedure, and not at all helpfull.
I hope this works out for you, $53 dollars is a lot of money in times like this.
