I just don't know where to start! There are endless resources on here, and even more when you do a google search, but where should a newbie start?
I feel like a complete idiot, but it's like everything on here is in a foreign language to me!

What did you do/find helpful when you were starting out?

I just posted some links on your Intro post. I recommend starting with reading Anne-Marie's blog and watching her videos. They're very instructional and should help you with the basics.

Here's another instructional site which you'll find helpful.

I started by going to a local craft store & purchasing a small kit.

It is overwhelming. Just give yourself time and start with the basics. Read the blog and watch the videos. You have plenty of time before Christmas to achieve your goal. :D

eta: I just saw Tabitha's post. That's a really good suggestion.

The kit is a good idea. There is a beginners soap making class starting in my area in January which I'm definitely going to sign up for. Thanks for all your suggestions!
