So DD called and I had to pick her up from school. Then we went to do an errand that took 2 hours.

I had 2# of CO in the crockpot on high and 'thought' I had turned it off. I did not :(

It smells off but not like burnt fryer oil.

Should I just dump it ? It was suppose to be no FO.

I don't have time now to actually soap so it is going to sit there and cool down anyway.
Damn, 90% of the time I have to soap gets put off due to something going on :sadgoodbye: and I have to wait.

As long as it didn't smoke or catch fire, I would think it should be fine to soap with. I would see if it still smells "off" when you remelt it when you are ready to soap again.

It didn't catch fire, thank god, but I don't know if it smoked. It didn't look like it.
But it was held at high heat for 2 hours :(

I think I may just scrap it later tonight when I get back if it smells off when solidified.

Well, hope my mistake helps someone else. Darn children !

I've held oils at high heat for extended periods of time (unintentionally also) and they were fine to soap with. Never had a problem. I mean if you want to scrap it you can, but my opinion is that would be a waste. Even if it does smell off a bit, depending on how strong that off smell is, it probably won't come through the end product.

I am sure it will be fine. Some folks and there is or was a company that specialized in using used restaurant oils. Those oils are usually used for deep frying at high temp, granted she does clean the oil, but if it does not smell burnt I would use it.
