I made pumpkin pie soap yesterday, and it turned out so well, I decided to make some more today.

Everything was going great. I had my soap in the mold and was cleaning up the dishes I used measure oils, when BAM! I realized I had forgotten to add the coconut oil. I scooped the soap out of the mold. It was already starting to get hard, but no gel yet. I added the coconut oil and sort of attacked it with my stick blender, but I'm not confident I managed to save it. In my panic, I didn't think to heat up my soap before I tried to add the oil. I really hope it turns out OK, and I keep trying to tell myself it's not a huge deal. I suppose I can rebatch it, but the last time I did that, I hated the way my soap came out. I just feel kind of miserable about it, and I thought writing it out here, where some other folks might commiserate, would make me feel better. I know it's expected that we make mistakes or ruin a batch sometimes, but I'm kind of sad about this one. Boo! :(

I keep peeking it it and hope I'm not seeing big pockets of unincorporated oil or lye spots. Sigh.

That stinks when that happens :(

If it hasn't been too long right now, you could HP it.

What a bummer! I hate that feeling looking at an ingredient staring you in the face and your pretty soap sitting in the mold. Let us know what happens. Good luck!

Well, it turned out lye heavy, and it looked pretty bad. I might have been able to save it, but I decided to chuck it. I'll chalk this one up as a failure. I have had pretty good luck so far. This was the first major mistake I made. It was a learning experience! The first batch I made turned out really well, so I know it's a great recipe when I do it right. You all should have seen it. There were not just white spots. There were white streaks of lye. I tested it for zap, it got me all right.

Oh, that hurts....I'm glad you're looking at it as an opportunity to learn. I've done the same thing with fragrance oil and had to dig my perfect layers out of the mold to add the f.o. :(
