I attempted my first batch of CP tonight.. just a basic Crisco/Coconut/Olive with a little Grapeseed.
I scented it with Bluebonnet and I even attempted a little swirl  so we'll see how that goes.. I just put it in bed for the night and tucked it in.. hoping it turns out well. Oh and I mixed them at 110*, does that sound right?
I did notice that my "blue" for the swirl is more like a blueberry cobbler now.. it was very pretty blue when I had it mixed with the oil (mica) but once I added it to the batter it browned a bit and reminds me of something baked with blueberries.. less "blue" now but still pretty good.
I'll add pics in a little while :D

ADDED PIC:

Not yet! I just walked back in the door - we have two houses (sorta.. one is my FIL's who passed away so we still have it but don't use it) so I did it over at his house to A) keep my kids away from it and B) keep me from peeking LOL
Hopefully I can resist the temptation to walk next door and cheat!

hey is it okay if my mold is sealed over? I used a velveeta tupperware and I snapped the lid on to help keep the heat in.. will it overheat or anything? I don't want it to explode.

good girl! you took the plunge!! i would check on it every so often. regular c/p usually warms up for me-but some f/o's HEAT UP! if it's warm, that's fine, but if it gets hotter, just vent it and check again-if it still doesnt cool down, remove the lid. you might get ash if you do, but that's easy to remove.

good luck! keep us posted.

Okay I'll go check on it - the house doesn't have any heat going so it's pretty cold in that house.. I wrapped it in a towel but I'll check anyway :)

Congratulations to you!! The first one is the hardest, you won't be able to stop yourself from making more now, which fragrance will be next, which colour? AND you attempted a swirl first batch??Very impressive!! :D

Ohhh I'm already wanting to do more :D If I can find another loaf-shaped mold I just might!
I went and checked on it.. it's toasty warm but not hot. I can easily cup the mold with my hands and not get too hot to touch. Also (and IDK if this is "right" or not) the bottom corners are starting to change colors.. like more opaque, "whitening up" a bit?? Is that okay/good?

Oh and I've already decided - next batch is Carrot Cake :D

soap

more than likely it's starting to gel. sounds like it's chugging along just fine.

another thing you can do is oven process over there- preheat oven to lowest setting. place mold in oven and shut oven OFF! place a towel over the top and leave til cool.

only do this when you know by experience that your f/o is not reactive!

Congratulations! I was where you are only 8 weeks ago....you will learn so much from each batch, and if you are like me, you will have read so much great info here on SMF that you will learn double-fast!

Soooo looking forward to pics

Tanya :)

Hooooray! We have soap! :D
(at least it looks like soap to me)

I made a small batch so my bars are small, but now that I have confidence that I can do it, I'll make a bigger batch next time..

My swirl ended up being more of a glop with streamers but it's not bad.. DH said it looks like marble cake, so I guess that's a good thing!

And without further ado... PICTURES!

Wow! They look good enough to eat!

Congrats on a Super Successful 1st Batch!

soap

that came out wonderful! i REALLY like the ripple cut!

welcome to the sisterhood of the traveling soap pot! (and all the emotional ups and downs that go with it!)

what's next?

Thank you!! I didn't like the top, so I used a julienne slicer (like a mandolin with a ripple blade) to shave the top off  - I lost about 1/2" doing it but worth it I think.. especially when I do a bigger batch, it won't be as noticeable that it's missing a chunk :D

I think I'm doing carrot cake next - I usually buy FO in 1oz bottles b/c I do MP and don't need much... so I'm going through and finding the ones I still have full bottles of (never requested by customers) and using those first :D I want to try to make it brownish orange with a layer of white on top.. (or I guess it would be cream colored but it'll work :) )

How do I make the "white" sit on top? Is there a trick to it?

i've never tried this, but what if you made the carrot "cake"-then after it cools, could you whip some m/p for a frosting? (along with some cake sprinkles or something like that?)

can this be done? would it stick?

starduster makes the prettiest cupcakes with frosting. i wonder if that would work?

Maybe so - I have no idea if/how you get MP to stick to CP.. maybe if I poured the "cake" part a let it cool a bit then made a tiny batch of "frosting" CP and poured it while it was thicker.. ??
Hmmm... off to do some thinking!

soap

deda posted today a pic of a salt bar with a clear m/p top. i cant find the thread to save my life! so apparently they can be bonded. you might ask her how it's done. i'd love to find out!
