I have made 4 batches of CP soap and they have all had an oily outcome and now I tried red palm oil (from an africa store) and it traced instantly, I just found out that my "refined palm oil (named palmin) " was coconut oil and I have been superfatting my soaps almost 30%, no wonder they are all so soft and never been zappy. I found the only store in Iceland that sells palm oil and if i want it lighter in color I have to boil it myself. I hate living in a country whit so limited range of products.
I am so looking forward to see how this soap is different from the other ones.

i don't think you're stupid - how were you to know that palmin was coconut oil?
one thing though - i think superfatting at such a high level is very brave.

I'm glad you found the problem. Who would have thought? Can you not order in Organic Sustainable Palm Oil from Columbia via a UK supplier? I have been able to source it via an Australian supplier, although it is very expensive, it is worth it to me. I love Orang-utans.

well... a 100% coconut oil soap superfatted at 20% can be quite nice...

but at 30% I'm just not so confident.

I don't know how many suppliers would do it, but I wonder how expensive is it for us to ship heavy things to you, I wonder. and would there be customs fees or taxes?

No I don't think you will get DOS - coconut is pretty much "bulletproof" when it comes to rancidity. I just thought perhaps it would be soft.

Thanks everybody, I think I will have to reconsider my palm oil use, although it is organic, I'm not so sure that means orangutan friendly. My superfatts were a result of the higer sap value of the coconut oil. Oh well I'm going to render tallow and try to make soap from that. Thank you again, I am really happy to have found a forum where everybody is really nice and polite.

African Palm Oil is Orang Utan safe. If it comes in a bottle (like a water bottle) it is likley to be african. There are other issues with Palm Oil from Africa, but it doesn't kill Orangs there.

Palmin is sold in Germany as well, and yes, it is coconut oil, but I think they mix something else into it, as it stays softer than the cocnut oil I get here in the UK, maybe some fractionated coconut oil ?

I started reading all of my oils very carefully and it says on my coconut oil "medium chain triglyceride " I googled it and that means fractionated, so that is another thing I have been doing wrong... where does it end... well i cought that mistake in the middle of making my peppermint soap so I pored in the extra lye ( I only have 30% lye solution here) that was missing and finally it traced. Please tell me that I am not a lost cause, this is the best hobby ever..
Thank you all for the useful and informative input and information, I love it here...

Well, since the palmin coconut oil is german, you might find cremana 250 gram x 4 at the local supermarket in the bakery section? Also, look at the frying oil section.
