HP using potasium hydroxide

It's a bit of curiosity because I found out that African Black soap made with ashed Plantain peels, is a Potassium hydrox , which also has high per centage of zinc in the ash.
I'm not intending to make HP or this soap, just wondering about the chemistry

Ashes contain potassium carbonate and some sodium carbonate. You can make soap with carbonates. It just takes longer.
