HP soap - any suggestions for creating patterns in the top layer?

Hello,

I've been working on creating fluid HP soap and have made 5 batches this far, but not happy with the roughness of the top layer. I know it's supposed to have a rustic look, but looking for tips and tricks for creating an attractive top layer on the soap.

Try using a spoon to texture the top into waves. You can also use a fork to create more of a furrowed look.

Or plane off the top to the smooth underneath.

Some people spray alcohol before this, it seems to help in the videos I've watched.

I think the alcohol is usually to prevent soda ash, although typically that's not necessary for HP.
