I tried to HP lard, coconut oil, avocado and beeswax yesterday and I'm not sure what went wrong. Before I even got it in the mold it got that waxy, clumping texture and had to press it into the mold cavities. I pulled them out of the molds when I got home and they look horrendous! Not smooth at all, air pockets and looks layered. Did I cook the soap too long?

It sounds like you overcooked it. If you want to save it, you can grate it up and rebatch with some water, or you can scrap it all together.

Once the entire mixture looks like vaseline or apple sauce it is important to keep a close watch on it and ideally stir until it isn't quite as shiny and looks more like potatoes.

I over cooked my first few batches, it happens.

Aw, crap! Well is it still usable? The crock pot bubbled quite nicely when I was washing it out. LOL Thanks!

It's definitely still useable, I still use one of my first, ugly and overcooked, but certainly useable batches.

And I mean it is ugly, it looks like craters on the moon.
