How to Store Kaolin Clay

How do you guys store your kaolin clay? I saw cool place out of direct sunlight. Is it okay to store it in plastic? I saw some conflicting info on that front. Also is it true that kaolin clay reacts with metal? Should I be careful to not scoop it out of the package with a metal spoon?

Plastic is fine, and metal spoons are fine. There are recommendations not to use metal with bentonite clay due to its electrical charge. Here is an interesting article that talks more about both clays, and the warnings about using metal with bentonite.

All clays are mined and processed using metal equipment. They've been in contact with metal before you get them.

Okey Dokey, sounds good. I thought it seemed a little far fetched that they shouldn't touch metal.

Is the expiration date on the bag truth? I mean, it's clay, will it really expire?

It's millenia old, so as itself, no; but the microbial testing would need a recheck at the supplier facility. For soapers' purposes, no.
