how the heck do I get this out of the jug?

I bought some palm kernal oil from soapers choice and it came in a jug with a spout. That stuff is solid!! Does anyone have a suggestion for getting it out??

Thanks for the reply guys. It is a 7 pound jug. Not going in the microwave, that would be too easy. I guess it is the sink of hot water. ( several hours before I need it I bet)

That doesn't sound fun at all. Maybe once you get it so you can get it out, put it in little gallon buckets or something easy to get to like that. The PKO I use is in flakes but I get it from WSP.

I have similar problems with my cocnut oil so I place my container near the dryer when I need to quickly dry the laundry.
Also i've noticed when I cook dinner using the oven or stove top the oil melts.

Editing to say I make sure by laundry is closed up when i'm melting my oil whilst drying the clothes or else the hot air escapes.

You can either put it in a sink full of hot water until it melts or cut the jug away from the solid oil and then store it in a plastic ice cream container with a lid.

you can play the melting game:
I've put the TIGHTLY CLOSED bottle into the washing machine as it was filling on hot. Leave the lid open, though, to prevent it agitating if you don't catch it in time. Just sayin'...

But what I quickly moved onto is ensuring it's SOLID and then cutting the bottle off of it and cramming it into a bucket. You can get buckets of all sizes at Home Depot & Lowes.

You have to wonder why they do that? :roll: I got coconut oil in a 5 litre bottle and sat it in hot water until some melted and then decanted it into a bucket.

I fill my laundry sink with HOT HOT water and let the bottles sit in there for a while. Then I pour the melted oil into large plastic coffee cans from a big box store (BJ's). They have snap on lids and are VERY easy to scoop once the oil turns solid again.

Someone from Freecycle was kind enough to give me her spares and they hold exactly a gallon. I left her a few soaps for her generosity.

Laying in bed last night pondering about it, I thought about putting it on a heating pad. That might work if it didnt take too long.

i put mine in a sink [about half full] of hot water but before i do that i put the kettle on and then i add the boiling hot kettle water to hot water in the sink. it only takes few minutes for the oils to completely melt.

FYI guys, the heating pad idea didn't work. Took forever and barely melted anything. I like the boiling water idea. I will try that next time.

I do the sink/hot water method which works pretty well. But there is usually a lump left unmelted and I'm too impatient to keep going back. So I often resort to putting the bottle in the microwave after a certain point. If you do that... be sure to remove all of the metal seal as it heats up quick.

I got my order for it from there a few weeks ago and the easiest thing was to take a large pot half full of water and boil it. Remove the pot, then take the lid off the container and set it in the water. I started my batch doing that, while prepping everything else. By the time I got to the adding of the oils, it was melted enough to pour.

Today I just put a pot of hot water on, then put it in and turned on the heat. By the time the water was almost to a boil, the entire container was liquid.

Just WATCH it if you do it that way, and make sure the cap is off the bottle.
