I'm going to make a soap with fresh avocado, OO, coco oil and castor oil. How much avocado would you recommend ppo? I'm think 3-4 oz. but that's really just a shot in the dark.

ETA: 3-4 oz for 20 oz of oils, ooops.

TIA.

Do you folks add the blended avocado to the oils at trace?

I made an avocado soap that did not turn out so well, I probably used too much avocado. It did have its aficionados though, so I should learn to make it right.

I used lemon and lime EOs to scent it. I know, boring....Any other ideas on scenting avocado soaps?

I always alway use an oz per lb and my soaps come out amazing I actually just made mine a week ago! 1381459501937.jpg1381459501937.jpg

I use one good size avocado per 3 pounds of soap, added to the oils before the lye water.

I think I must try avocado finally! But is not getting brown? I have bed experience with carrot turn ugly brown...

SugarandOats the soap looks great! Do you have any avocado bar cured?

I used the carrot soap recipe from Soaping101. The soap is still a nice, deep yellow color after several months.

I used about 30 gms of avocado but that was to go with cucumber and oil before adding it to trace. You could stretch it to 60 gms for 700 gms of oil. The soap turned out quite nice and smooth. The little speck of green you see if probably from the cucumber.

I puree my avocado in a blender with a little coconut milk, just enough to get the avocado started pureeing in the blender, and some lemon juice or citric acid. I use anywhere from 3-7 oz in a 5 lb batch of soap. I soap 50/50 lye solution with water discound of 2:1 (water to lye). I add in the avocado puree after I stir in the lye solution. This make a beautiful creamy soap. I keep my avocado puree frozen for quick access. If you do farmer markets that sell avocados many times you can get them to give you the avocados they have to throw away. I recently froze 5 lbs of puree from overripe avocados. Just cut out the dark part. Avocado and fresh aloe also makes a fantastic soap

WOW, I absolutely love it!!! So I need to subtract that amount of avocado I would like to use, from my water value?
Does the color holds?

Yes you need to count the puree as water. The color will depend a lot of your soaping temp and water discount. If you use full water you could add the puree in at trace and it will give you the least color change. I like coloring with natural colorants and use sage or spirulina to keep it a bit green. You have to practice and see how the avocado works for you.
