Cobbsie, Brambleberry sells a small square mold that is useful as a one-pound mold (about 500 grams). I also use a wooden index file card box that has a lid as a one-pound mold. I like it because the wood is thick and sturdy and when the lid is down, it is self-insulating.

My mold is 4 inches square and slightly less high (maybe 3.75 inches?). I think 500g is the conversion with the easy math.

This is one of my favorite recipes I make. Super cheap, and fits perfectly on a 1 pound mold, with a little space to spare. I soap at 2% superfat, so you may want to run it through the calculator, if you would like to try it.

LYE & LIQUID AMOUNT
Lye (Sodium Hydroxide) 1.79 oz
Ounces of liquid 4.29 oz

OILS & FATS AMOUNT

Just wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for sites to buy moulds in the UK/Europe?

I cant get my head round what a pound mould looks like so am not sure what the equivalent sizes are. There are a lot of ebay from China....

I love Milky Way molds ! I use them for my bath bombs too.

I get many of them on eBay with free shipping.

This is the one pound molds I use:

I also have these medium will hold 2 pounds (but the bars are small), and large one like 4 pounds.

Cheaper without wood box, but you would have to put books or something on the sides.

Interesting thread. I have 6 silicone molds with wooden supports, most made by Workshop Heritage (via Etsy). Now that they have closed, I don't really know where to turn. I have a Nurture silicone and wood mold that I like, but the quality of W.H. was second to none.

I'm a woman with no woodworking experience and limited tools, and I have managed to figure out how to build wooden boxes for my silicone molds. They've held up well for many years now, and it really wasn't so difficult to do. If I could do it, anyone can.:)

I mostly use hdpe molds and have 7 5-6 lb molds, 7 4-5 lb molds which are my standard size molds, 4 2 lb molds. In wood I have a 7 lb tall skinny mold, a 5 lb wood slab mold (for pouring peacock design), 7 lb wood log mold, and the 9 bar birch wood mold from B&B (which I no longer use). I have a square 18 oz acrylic column mold which is nice for testing fragrances and a 25 oz rectangle acrylic is also used for fragrance testing and 1 2 lb acrylic mold. I also have at least a 2 dozen individual cavity molds of various sizes. A slew of Milky Way molds that are not used much.

I have too many.... I have 6 silicone lined 7 lb from Nurture, 6 wood loafs to hold the silicone liners from BB, 2- 6 lb slab molds, 1-12lb slab, 3 cylinder silicone molds, 4 WSP silicone molds loaf and 1 TS silicone, and then there are the individual bars silicone olds (6), silicone guest size (4), then there are the molds for bath bombs, imbeds etc.... too much. I need to destash sometime soon.

I just recently pulled out my 1501 silicone molds for a lavender soap. I haven't used them for years as I 'thought' I preferred the more square shaped soap molds. Now I realize that variety truly is the spice of life!! (going to have to replace one of the because the bottom is warped after a overheating fo experience)

I have one 1504 one lb mold,
2 CC 1501
1 American Soap tall and skinny
3 square-ish loaf molds from Amazon
1 9 bar slab mold from Heritage Workshop that I've never really figured out how to use. Sorry to hear they're not around any more as the quality is excellent
1 BB individual square bar mold for leftovers
too many milkway molds that people give me as gifts - but I hate the weird gooey silicone texture and they're collecting dust in the garage. Plus every single time I used them they ashed more than any other soap in history.

Um... a normal amount? *hides containers of molds*

I have 1 that does 4 logs 3.5 lb logs. I have a love/hate relationship with it.

I have the 10" silicone from BB. I like it a lot.

I have 2 TS molds from American. I like them a lot. I like TS molds b/c if your top is bumpy it's a very small area to plane off. Downside is because of the tall sides, there is more surface area of the mold gripping the soap and it's harder to unmold the soap.

I like BB's silicone tube mold--but it does leave a line where the mold closes so it's not a perfectly smooth circle.

If I had it to do over...I think I'd buy a specialized mold from Soap Hutch. I may do it one day anyway.

I saw a review of that one. How well does it work for you? It's a bit out of my current price range but still really appealing for down the road

Love them

I LOVE IT.... I made a sacrifice. to get this.. i also have a box my husband made for me .. the same dimensions. weird.. but when i put the molds inside i was SOOOOO HAPPY. NOW I CAN WORK ON DUAL THINGS. :)
I PLAN TO GET ALL his molds.. save some cash every month :) i dont have the wonderful commercial grade silicone mat but a nice silicone cutting board works for the one my husband made a couple years back.
Even he loves it. He said Tim is amazing.. why dont you buy another one.. I was so happy :) so now we are going to have 2 :)

Oh my. That's definitely going on my wish list.

So far I've got six silicone molds in various shapes and two four pound wooden loaves that I got off Etsy. And some tiny little rose silicone cups, make for really cute guest soaps or testers if the batter isn't too thick. I've also got tons of cardboard stashed, I can make a one-off mold with cardboard, duct tape and plastic lining in almost any shape I can build.
