My Escali scale has become less than consistent lately. I've used it for 8 years off and on and it has not been abused, rather it lives comfortably in its original foam home when not in use and is handled with care. The warranty was 5 years. It went south on me when weighing up oils for my first beer soap. I noticed it jumping from 184 to 180 grams on one weighing and the total weight that should have been 1200+ grams wasn't even close looking into the bowl. It was more like 400. I removed the batteries (dated 2024) and after a minute or so reinstalled the same ones. Worked fine but now I'm not very confident that it is ok. This is the second time it has happened in about 10 batches. Scrambled brain? Have any experienced this? Perhaps it's time to upgrade. If so, are there any recommendations? What have you found to be reasonably priced, reliable and sturdy for a hobbyist, sometimes in a lengthy soap making frenzy but certainly not commercial. Thanks all.

I have the KD8000 and love it.
Love that it is Mains power and battery power if needed. You can adjust the switch off time, it has covers to protect the key pad, you can easily see the key pad and the read out, the top plate is S.S. and easily cleaned. It is accurate for small amounts. You can see the readout even with a huge mixing bucket on top.

The only downside is the sides are plastic and I have a few dribble marks I didn’t clean up in time.

I have the KD 7000 and love it. I bought it around 2012.

I think the only difference between it and the KD8000 is that the 7000 can only weigh up to 7000g (as opposed to 8000g), and the KD8000 has the new Baker's% function.

I love so many things about my scale....it's easily to keep clean, it can be powered by either battery or electricity....but best of all, it gives me the option to either adjust the time of the auto-turn off function (that horrible bane of many a soap-maker) or to completely disable it altogether. The very first thing I did when I got it out of the box was to disable that sucker. My scale stays on until I decide to turn it off, dagnabit! lol
